Spring Trends to Wear This (Royal) Wedding Season

The nuptials of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are the event of the summer—nay, the year—and an invite to the star-studded affair is a hot ticket. But even if you didn’t snag one, we’re sure your schedule is packed with the wedding celebrations of family and friends. Put one of these five utterly wearable spring fashion trends into rotation and you’ll be the belle (or beau) of any ceremony you attend.

Be Dazzling

Sparkle dominated the Spring 2018 runways, from lavish sequin gowns at Marc Jacobs and Oscar de la Renta to oversized-paillette sweaters at Gucci. If you know the bride and groom are down to party, a glitter mini with a deep v-neck (à la Tom Ford and Greta Constantine) will take you from sit-down dinner to dance floor, cocktail in hand.

Keep It Light

This summer, ditch black and navy suiting. Instead, opt for lightweight cotton or linen in a pale shade of grey or blue. Feeling extra daring? You might even try white—but you’d better get the bride’s approval first. If possible, choose an unlined jacket to keep things easy breezy, especially for sunny daytime ceremonies on a beach, garden or backyard.

Cool Shoulder

Plain straps are so last season. This year, opt for artful flourishes like the jeweled spaghetti straps seen at Balmain and Dries Van Noten, or the floral cutouts on this Allen Schwartz LDB. With such a lovely neckline built right into your outfit, you won’t even need a necklace. Just pop on a bold red lip and go.

Check, Please!

Ideal for daytime weddings and dressy casual affairs, a checked sport jacket with light-hued trousers is a classic pairing that’s gaining traction for spring. Add retro shades or a pocket square and you’ll look just dandy. Note that if the invite calls for semi-formal or black tie, a matching suit is more appropriate.

Gather Round

Ruching, the subtle gathering of fabric to embellish dresses, tops and skirts, was a hit at Spring 2018 shows such as Peter Pilotto, Carven and Dolce & Gabbana. This wedding season, add feminine flair to your ensemble with a flirty floral frock that gathers at the hips, then flows free from knee to asymmetrical hem.
