Yorkville Village at Home With Vintage Conservatory, Vol I

In an effort to connect with our loved ones during a period when perhaps connection is needed most, food and wine can help transport virtual moments into everlasting memories. So this week on #YVatHome, Vintage Conservatory presents Classic Italian Night, a 3-course Italian inspired meal and pairing even the self-taught chefs can tackle!

When thinking of wines to pair with dishes, one of the age-old rules to follow is “what grows together, goes together”. Italy is one of the world’s most unique wine regions with over 2,000 native grape varietals grown throughout the country and of these, one of the most popular is Sangiovese.

Sangiovese is known for its bright, tart red fruit aromas, and confident structure. While these wines are powerful, the best examples maintain lifted aromatics of not only fruit but florals and herbs as well. Think of fennel, sage, rosemary – all of the herbs used commonly in Italian cuisine! These wines always have a lively acidity, which makes them a stand out pairing for tomato-based dishes.

The most famous home of Sangiovese is Tuscany. This is where the iconic wines of Chianti and Brunello di Montalcino hail from. And of course we can’t forget the original Super Tuscan built upon the Sangiovese grape – Tignanello.

Some of our other favourite’s from Tuscany:
Isole e Olena, Ceparello
Castello di Ama, Chianti Classico
Montevertini, Le Pergole Torte
Soldera
Fontodi, Flaccianello

To accompany that smooth Sangiovese, we have the perfect (and fairly simply) homemade orecchiette and classic tomato sauce!

And no true Italian evening would be complete with out dessert and espresso…so why not combine the two? For our third and final course, we present to you the espresso cookie!

Now grab that glass of Sangiovese, sit back and enjoy. This is Yorkville Village at Home with Vintage Conservatory  — see you next week!

Buon appetito!
