In Canada, there are over 4,300 people who are waiting for a life-saving organ transplant, and while the majority of organ transplants are done by deceased donors, living donors make up 25 per cent of all organ donations each year. Yet, what we see year over year is that the demand for organs continues to outpace supply. More needs to be done to improve access and equity to organ donations, and this is where the living donor program can play a vital role as it offers a shorter pathway to better health, particularly for those in marginalized communities and pediatric patients.
This exclusive photo gallery experience marries the beauty of art and science to tell the beautiful stories of generosity, life and success through post-surgery appearances of patients and living donors. Leveraging the latest technology, these stories will be displayed across digital screens throughout the event space to highlight that while surgeries are scary, scars don’t have to be and that there is true beauty and purpose in the scars we wear.
