All the Fall 2019 Toronto Fashion Week Trends You Can Shop Now

The FW ’19 edition of Toronto Fashion Week x RE\SET wrapped a month ago. And while most of the collections won’t land in stores until late summer or early fall, the good news is that you can shop a few of the upcoming season’s top runway trends early — it’s just a matter of knowing where to look.

Here are 7 of the most compelling mens- and womenswear trends spotted at Toronto Fashion Week, plus how to get the look right now.

Hat trick

Standout hats were the season’s must-have accessory. Sophisticated, dramatic millinery creations were spotted at shows including Thomas Bálint, Narces and Hilary MacMillan, paired with everything from eveningwear to suiting. Look for structured styles in neutral, timeless colours such as black and cream.

Patent pending

Vegan-friendly patent leather, especially in black, made a convincing appearance at fashion week. This season, the key is to mix multiple patent pieces in one outfit or rock the look head-to-toe, ideally in complementary colours.

White on white

For both menswear and womenswear, all-white looks again dominated the runways. We spotted countless white gowns and separates at Michi, Mani Jassal, David Dixon and Thomas Bálint. For the purest way to work the look, just be sure to match your whites.

Puff up

For labels such as Wuxly, Christopher Bates and Hilary Macmillan, designers embraced high fashion takes on puffer coats, scarves and even snowsuits. Look for styles with a bit of shimmer or shine, and don’t be afraid to style your quilted finds with heels and even tailored suiting.

Jump start

The evening jumpsuit is not going anywhere soon. Tailored and crafted from upscale fabrics like silk, these one-and-done garments are a must-have in any modern women’s wardrobe. We spotted powerful, brightly coloured takes on the trend at Lesley Hampton and David Dixon.

Fringe benefits

From dressy fringe dresses at Zoran Dobric to swingy, dance-ready jackets at Rock ‘N Karma, fringe was a popular trim for FW ’19. Get a head start on the trend with this eye-catching, summery tee from Maska.

All frills

Oversized ruffles were the highlight of many formal gowns at Toronto Fashion Week x RE\SET, including at Narces and Mani Jassal. The latter, who draws inspiration from her Indian heritage and Canadian roots, sent her SS ’19 collection down the runway last month, and lucky for us, it’s available at her Yorkville Village showroom right now.
