The Profile: Meet Judith & Charles

A chance meeting between Judith Richardson and Charles Le Pierrès on a Caribbean beach nearly three decades ago led to a beautiful romance—and a professional partnership that would become one of Canada’s top workwear brands: Judith & Charles.

Launched in 2008, the Montreal-based womenswear line has garnered glowing industry accolades, gained a loyal customer base, and opened 11 stylish boutiques across Canada. Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle and Sophie Grégoire Trudeau are among the label’s biggest fans—both have worn Judith & Charles on countless occasions over the years.

Thoughtfully inspired by textiles, design, and architecture, Judith & Charles clothing is at once feminine and masculine, impeccably tailored, unfailingly elegant and comfortable yet structured. Fit and fabric quality are at the centre of each design, and each piece is made to last and complement a well-edited wardrobe. Beautiful suiting, tailored dresses, sumptuous knits and more make up each timelessly fashionable collection—these are real clothes for real women, designed to be worn every day and with ease.

And, there’s more to love: 80% of the collection is manufactured in Canada, and, since 2015, the brand has supported the non-profit Charlie’s Foundation, which provides English lessons, tennis instruction and vocational training to youths in the Dominican Republic.

Spring 2019

This season, it’s all about the fabrics. Judith & Charles’ “Hero Fabrics” for spring include a lightweight and practical stretch wool, a delicate mini floral lace, and a multi-coloured accent plaid made from a unique combination of natural and high-tech fibres.

Standout garments include a white, double-breasted suit, a smart tuxedo dress similar to one recently worn by the Duchess of Sussex, and an oversized, line shorts-suit that we can imagine wearing all summer long.

This boxy linen topper would look as great with matching shorts as it would over your favourite floral dress.

Revival Jacket.

This combination might just make for the perfect summer suit. It’s made of a pretty, light-blue Italian wool with just a bit of give.

Pixel Jacket and Clive Pant.

A chic striped knit is a wardrobe essential. This crew-neck style is made from an Italian-sourced, viscose-blend fabric.

Andante Pullover.

The double-breasted blazer is a big trend for spring. Wear this lined, peak-lapel style from the boardroom to brunch with ease.

Scape Jacket and Modular Pant.

Perfect for transitional-weather days, this long jacket is expertly lined and vented.
